WHAT IS "THE BRIDGE"...

AND WHAT DO THEY DO?

THE BRIDGE is the Denton Chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (D-CUUPS for short). CUUPS is an organization dedicated to networking Pagan-identified Unitarian Universalists (UUs), educating people about Paganism, promoting interfaith dialogue, developing Pagan liturgies and theologies, and supporting Pagan-identified UU religious professionals.

The Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS) was chartered by the Unitarian Universalist Association at the General Assembly in 1987. The full CUUPS Statement of Purpose can be read here. Please also read THE BRIDGE'S Mission Statement and Bylaws in order to fully understand the Denton chapter's purpose for forming.

Most chapters choose a special name for their group, much like covens or groves do. It makes it a more personal group than just calling yourselves the, insert area here, CUUPS group. Our group chose "THE BRIDGE" because we wanted a name that would symbolize a group that changed our lives and helped us cross over from the mundane world, to a much more spiritually enriched life.

Now that you have read the official documents for CUUPS and its Denton Chapter, let me give you an idea as to the spectrum of our local activities. THE BRIDGE holds a circle for each of the eight seasonal celebrations of the year; all are open circles (open to the public and anyone who wishes to come), and occasional other circles, such as full moon rituals, or requested rites for our members (such as handfastings or funerals) usually these are closed circles (available only to BRIDGE members and those they personally invite).

In addition to circles, we also have frequent social gatherings. Classes, field trips to pagan or spiritually oriented happenings in the DFW metroplex, after church discussion panels, and sporadic and informal parties are all common Bridge events.

the Denton CUUPS group all involves itself in socially and environmentally aware community activities and projects (for example an Adopt-a-Spot cleanup is scheduled every other month). Our Mission and Bylaws are firmly in place, and we will do our best to uphold them and abide by them (which can be changed by a proper vote). However, we are a very flexible and welcoming group. This group's dynamics will change with each individual that joins its ranks and will in turn become a reflection of those individuals. We invite you to bring forth your unique path, talents, projects, ideas, methods, and visions to THE BRIDGE as well. We believe that diversity breeds wonderful things, and we welcome it. We want to make this an exciting and warm home for any Denton area pagan who wants to share in our journey.
